This post was supposed to go up yesterday, but I wanted to post my goals for the weekend so that everyone could get their sites updated for the Weekend Warrior Challenge. So you get 8 days of weigh-ins for the price of 7 this week–an unbelievable deal, huh?

Overall, it was a pretty slow week: which is just fine by me. I lost just under a pound for the week which puts me at under 1 pound to go until I’m officially under 170. It was a great week for me nonetheless. I managed to:

  • Keep track of my calorie intakes all days except for one. (yesterday was a whopper)
  • Stay on target for all of my workouts during the week.
  • AND

  • Complete my first 20 mile training run in 3 hours and 15 minutes! (I’m totally proud of that one)

The run was really tough for me, but I got through it. We managed a negative split (which means that the second half was faster than the first half) but I was pretty down in the dumps the rest of the day. I was tired and sore and didn’t feel like doing much. I hit the sack at 8:30 and woke up the next morning at 4:30 to head to the gym to meet Brody. After our workout, my legs were really sore, and I’m actually still feeling the affects today.

The low point of the week came on Wednesday. I struggled all day with food and made some pretty poor choices. Couple that with the fact that I didn’t work out and I was dreading the scale read out on Thursday morning. But as you can tell I didn’t have any negative effects.

Thursday I was back to my feel good self and ready to conquer the world again. T and I were able to schedule a run together which helped a lot–we clipped off seven easy miles in just over an hour. My legs felt really good during the run, but after they let me know that they’re still feeling the affects of Sunday/Monday/Tuesday.

The weekend is almost upon us and I’m ready for the Weekend Warrior Challenge. The count down to Palm Springs is on and I’m ready to relax down there…In a getting in shape kind of way I mean!

It’s funny that you say “I had a slow week”, and then post a (almost) 1 pound loss :)

Great work again this week Mac, I’m very happy for you that you’re so close to your goal. Good luck on the challenge this weekend, and have fun on your vacation!

First off, congratulations on what sounds like an amazingly productive week. Now, my concerns: You ran a 20 mile run, then got up the next morning (at 4:30!) to have a workout session with your trainer. No wonder you were down in the dumps! YOU WERE EXHAUSTED! Marathon runners usually take at least a week off after running 26.2 miles (some say you should take a day off for every mile run); you ran 80% of that and didn’t rest. And that’s probably why you didn’t feel good the rest of the week and, in your words, “made some pretty poor food choices.” Dude, your body was starving! Cut yourself a break, please! 20 miles! I am on “Get Fit SLOWLY”, right?

I am not sure how to read these status update emails since I do not see a ‘So What for Me”…….All I have to say is that you are sharing your goals with us and I have to say “Good for you”.

If I am reading your blog, I need to get MORE out of these messages……So slide some more ideas, thoughts and suggestions that can get people who are getting to the 20 mile marker (not me), or how you started from 0 miles to 2, to 4 to 6 to 8 to 10 etc. What were the pain points in between. How many times you feel off the wagon etc etc etc. You are a smart person, so you will figure it out.

But, if you are going to talk about ‘you’, and then page (not the entire blog), is not for the public. It becomes a ‘tweet’!

Sorry for being honest, and if you took offence, then sorry for being brutally honest. If you liked it , reply back to me!

Sometime a 1 pound loss just does not seem fair. At the same time, what is really good to know is that you know the formula and you just need to do it. When you do not know how to lose weight (or can’t) that is a horrible feeling.

you’ve got it.

I’m mighty impressed with the 20 mile run. I think your natural pace is somewhat faster than mine and you’re going to rock that marathon.

I’ve always struggled with my 20 milers in the past. So I’m going to use the Hanson brother’s training plan which tops out at 16 miles for my next marathon. Should be an interesting experiment.

Congratulations on the steady progress.

Good luck with that experiment Andrew…I’m sure your experience will get you through. And remember, speed is in the eye of the beholder!

I don’t like driving for three hours, let alone running. Impressive. Hope I’m where you are someday. :)
