The Willamette Valley is in the grips of the worst heat wave I can remember. I’ve lived in Oregon for 10 years now and can’t remember it ever being so hot. Today and tomorrow’s forecast in Salem is 105, and the rest of the 7-day forecast is well in the 90′s. I’m not a big fan of heat, so I’ll have to be getting my exercise in early in the morning, or in the comfy air-conditioned gym. But I’ll get it done.
Yesterday was a great day. I carried my phone in my pocket all day and inputted all of my calories. I didn’t hit my calorie target for the day, however. In fact, I was under the goal by about 500 calories which means my deficit for the day was about 1000 calories. In my book, that’s too big a deficit to maintain for a long period of time, so I’ll work on getting to the right balance point over the next couple of days.
It’s nice to be home for a while, even if it is too hot. I feel like we’ve had a hurricane of a summer so far. We were really busy in the beginning, we’re now smack dab in the middle of the eye, but we know what’s coming soon! Pam’s got some more races scheduled, I’ve got a trip with the kids, and the whole family has two trips scheduled for weddings in Iowa and California. Plus we’ll have some visitors scattered throughout the rest of the summer as well. I fear it will be tough to control my diet and exercise plans. I’ll just have to be diligent and plan ahead, making sure to eat well and exercise well on days that aren’t busy, and go into damage control mode on days that are.
It’s going to have to be about moderation, and slow progress. That’s what worked before and that’s what will work again.

Moderation is definitely key. Good to see you back on the wagon!
Man do I feel you on this heat. I’m out in Astoria, and it is in the 80′s. It is nothing compared to where you are but, still hot compared to normal. Stay cool. Glad to hear that you are getting back on track with things.
