Wednesday Weekly Weigh In–4/8/09

As you can see from yesterday’s post, mentally, I’ve had a rough couple of days.  It seems to be running in the family too.  Just after I posted yesterday, I got an email from my wife saying, “I’m hungry too!”  She’s hungry because she runs 70 miles per week; I’m hungry because I think I’m getting bored with my program–AGAIN!  That’s ok, I’ll be able to stick with it because in a mere 8 weeks, I’ll be changing from weight loss mode to weight maintenance mode.  I don’t know how my program will change when I get there.  I’m going to have to do some reading (and thinking) about what needs to be done.  Here are my numbers (and of course the graph) for this week:

Previous Weight:   184.4 lbs

Current Weight:     183.3 lbs

BF:                             22.5%

Even though the last few days were tough, I started to feel better last night.  I did my easy 6-mile run on the treadmill and wasn’t very bored.  During the hour, I watched my daughter play on the computer (Dora, Diego, and The Backyardigans games on nickjr.com) and then watched the pictures on my screensaver fly by.  Some of the pictures of me from 18 months ago helped to remind me of what I’m doing and why I’m doing it.  Nothing like a few pictures with some extra pounds in them to get me a bit motivated.  The run was easy, just like it was supposed to be during a recovery week.  Then Pam and I watched The Biggest Loser and that always motivates me as well.  The weight losses are truly mind boggling.  I watch the contestants’ struggles and realize that I have nothing to complain about.  The game is getting to the point where some of the contestants are approaching weights where I was when I started my process.  That also motivates me because I don’t like being heavier than the contestants on the biggest loser.  If a man wins this season, I may be heavier than him at the end.

So after a good run, seeing some old pictures, and watching some TV I’m feeling better.  And I still lost a pound during a week when I struggled.  This week, I’m going to keep up with my running, get a back massage, and keep my intake in check.  Next week begins a tough running week, so I may let my calories creep up a bit depending on how I feel.  Stay tuned.

I wouldn’t worry too much about the end point of the biggest loser — a lot of those people gain back some weight at the end. Since you’re going for sustainable, life-long change, do what works well for you.

also, since you’re so close to the end, maybe it would be good to let your calories creep up on the difficult weeks. then, reign them back in on the recovery weeks. yes, it will extend the time to your goal . . . but it’s also accurate of how maintenance will work. you won’t eat the same thing every week, so maybe it’s good to get some practice in now. maybe try it for a week and see how it goes?

congrats on being so close! I love watching your progress. Keep it up :-) also, fyi — I went and ran a mile this morning even though I woke up later than intended and had stuff I had to do. thanks for more motivation :-)

My daughter is a big part of my deciding to get into shape. And she’s also discovered online computer games. Mixed feelings about that.

So if I’m reading the chart correctly you’ve lost almost forty pounds? That’s great. I’m just beginning this, and have a lot of weight to lose. Have anything to throw out to a newbie? Something I can grab and run with right away? Congratulations on your loss (odd phrase) so far, and keep up the hard work.
