I’ve been negligent about the one hundred pushups challenge, both here and in Real Life. I stopped doing my pushups for a week, and it’s been a while since I updated my progress here.
As part of getting “back on the bus”, I’m remedying that situation today. I performed a one-time exhaustion test as a sort of reset switch. I was able to do 33 pushups, which is more than I’ve been able to do at one time before. So, even though I took a break, I haven’t lost too much stamina.
Starting Monday, I’ll be back on the project, but with week three column three. This may be too ambitious. If it is, I’ll drop to column two on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, I’m continuing to try to make smart food choices. Kris is helping me. (She nixed the trip to Dairy Queen last night after we made another trip to clean up my mother’s house, for instance.) This morning I had one chicken sausage, an egg, some toast and jam, and a cup of tea. Very nice.
Right now, I’m going to walk one mile to the bicycle store. They tell me my bike is ready to pick up. As I walk, I’ll eat an orange. Then, if all goes well, I’ll do a quick twenty mile ride to be sure the bike is working properly.
As I said on Thursday: it feels good to be making the right choices again. When I make the wrong choices, I beat myself up over them. But when I do the right thing, I feel good both physically and mentally.

I hadn’t heard of the 100 pushups - great idea.
I’ve got at least six weeks before badminton season starts at school, and I think it would be a great way to start tryouts by making them do pushups, then showing them how their overweight, almost-40 coach (me!) can do more pushups then they can!
Unfortunately I’ll have to start with knee pushups, since I can’t even do one ‘real’ pushup with proper form. Oh well - small steps. My initial test shows I can do 3, so I’ll start Monday with week 1, column 1.

I did some exhaustion tests as well this week, both on my knees and standard form. On my knees, I got to 55, which is an additional 10 since about a month ago. That seems like slow progress, but you need to factor in a week recovery for a triceps injury. The rest did me a lot of good, my elbow hasn’t hurt since. As for the standard form, I got up to 30, again an 8 push-up increase over last month.
Tomorrow I’m starting week 5 column 1. I still don’t feel like I’m up to it, so I’ll be doubling the allowed rest times. I should be bale to finish week 5 that way. Then next week I can decrease the resting time again, maybe jump to a higher column,… I’m still getting stronger. My max has tripled in the past three months. It’ll take quite a lot longer than 6 weeks, but I’m sure I’ll get there someday!

I put the whole push up thing on the back burner for a bit as well. I just did an exhaustion test and got to 23 pushups, so I’d probably need to go to week 3, column 2. I don’t know if I will actually keep it up or not though!

I hadn’t heard of the 100 pushup challenge. That’s a great idea. I’ll have to incorporate it into goal-setting.

Your site has become a regular read of mine since I began trying to lose weight about four months ago. I fell off track too, and have been meaning (for longer than I want to admit) to get back to it. It seems like your life has been amazingly hectic and stressful lately, and it is so motivating to read in your post what a lot of your followers already know: working out and eating well just makes you feel better, whether they lead to a six-pack or no.
