Weekend Roundup: Family Crisis Edition

From now until I complete the one hundred pushups project, I’ll be posting weekend updates about my progress. (I finished weekly updates ten days ago.)

As you may recall, I managed to complete week four and was moving on to week five. I didn’t do very well. Here are my results:

  • Day one: 30 - 16 - 7 - massive failure
  • Day two: 17 - 17- 16 - 11 - massive failure
  • Day three: 20 - 15 - 15 -15- 24

Day one was terrible. Day two was thwarted by a family crisis (see below). And day three, I reverted to week four column one, which I did well at. Tomorrow, based on the advice of my friend Nickel at Fit 36, I’ll be dropping to week three, but moving to the second column. I’m patient. I know I’ll reach 100 pushups eventually.

As I said, this week has been difficult for me. I’m coping with a family crisis. My mother has been admitted to the hospital, where she’s likely to remain for days (if not weeks). My attention is elsewhere.

As a result, my post slots this week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday) will be filled by guest posts from readers and colleagues. I hope to return to normal schedule in about ten days.

Meanwhile, here are some recent articles I liked from around the physical fitness blogosphere:

I should mention that this family crisis is playing havoc with my fitness regimen. I’m doing very well on food consumption (with occasional binges prompted by stress), but am getting almost zero exercise. Kris and I are going to work on changing that this week. I’m going to schedule three stretching sessions each day, and make time for trips to the gym. Take care!

The only thing I’ll say about the urine thing is that if you take a lot of vitamins or drink a lot of certain kinds of beverage (i.e., Mountain Dew) your ‘output’ can be coloured for no reason other than your body simply passing stuff on. This is notably true with multivitamins.

I’ve made it to week four but instead of being in the second level i’ve decided this week to go to level one! It’s all good and i’m still doing a lot better than i ever thought i could!
Hope the family crisis gets better soon.

Hope your mom is better soon.

Also, I’m intimidated just thinking about 100 push-ups.

Push ups are going great. After finishing week 3 and 4 on column 2, my plan was to start week5 in column 1. One quick glance at the numbers made me decide against it though. There was just no way I’d be able to pull it off. So I dropped back to week 3 column 3:
    W3D1C3: 25-17-17-15-27
    W3D2C3: 27-19-19-15-31
    W3D3C3: 30-22-22-20-30
I added another 17 to my all time record, for a grand total of 124 push ups!
It feels pretty strange actually. Every new day, when I look at the number of push ups I need to complete, there’s this mental battle. I’m thinking “this is going to be TOUGH!” and I have to kinda mentally charge up. But then I get down and pump out a set of 30 with surprising ease. It’s like my mind hasn’t caught up yet with how much stronger I’ve become :) Anyone else feel that way too?

JD, I’m sorry to hear about your mother. I hope all goes well. I totally understand you having other priorities right now. All the best for both of you.

I’m about to start week 05 column 03. I think I’ll be at this level for a month or so!

I hope things resolve successfully J.D. Our thoughts will be with you.
