This is it — the final daily update for the Get Fit Slowly one hundred pushup challenge. This is the end of the sixth week, but I’m not sure anyone has actually made it this far. (If you have, and if you do the 100 consecutive pushups in a day or two, please let us know about it!)
Starting next Saturday, I’ll be posting weekend pushup updated in which I’ll let you know my own progress and in which you can share yours. I’d love to see how many people can eventually make it to 100 pushups. I sense now that it’s possible, but I just don’t know how soon. It’s not a race, though.
For now, though, here’s the final set of pushups. If you’re doing week six, do this:
If you complete this day, it’s time for one final test. And remember: you haven’t failed if you can’t do the 100 pushups. Are you kidding? You’ve come a long way. Just move back a week or two and keep building your strength. You’ll be at 100 pushups before long!
If you’re doing week five, follow this schedule:
If you’re repeating a previous week, here are your links:
Update: I did manage to complete week four successfully today, nailing the 20-15-15-15. (The first three sets were very strong, indeed.) I managed 19-1/2 on the final set, and might have done more if I had allowed myself to pause in the up position more. I’ll do an exhaustion test this weekend, and then move on to week five next week, where I fully expect to get my butt kicked!

I’m not sure that this is a great challenge to get people into exercise. It seems that most people get excited about it initially, but then fail miserably (which I imagine can only serve to defeat their self image):

Anyway, I wrote my thoughts about it on my blog:

I think it’s admirable of you to try it though.

I don’t think people fail miserably, I think they are looking too big too fast. If instead of comparing where they are at to the goal of 100, and instead compare where they are to where they started some weeks ago, then they will probably feel strongly about progress they have made.
Also J.D., you have to hit a min of 31 (i think) to move onto week 5 next week, is that correct? I am still not completely sure how this works.

Well, I finished week six today… I’ve been struggling in the third column for the past couple of weeks, but I’ve always managed to hit the targets, and usually 3-5 more than max on the final set. When I started, I could do 25-30 push-ups; I was able to hit 65 during the last endurance test. I’ll try the final test on Sunday.
Keep on pushing everyone! It’s tough, but well worth it!! Good luck!

Well, it may be a fad, but I’ve got all my friends doing it. One just finished week 5, one is on a repeat of week 4 (my friend who never exercises and is overweight no less! so it is getting him into exercise), one just repeated week 2 but in the hardest column, and due to an unrelated shoulder injury, I’m on day 3 of week 1 again.
When I started I could do 1 pushup. On Wed my max was 10 at once. That’s a pretty awesome increase. I’m definitely going to keep it up, and I draw new friends into it everyday.

I worry that week five is way too big of a jump, though. It starts with 30 pushups, which I just did, but barely. And then it wants another 24 in 60 seconds? And a max set with another 30? Not going to happen. Well, maybe I’ll try it once, but…
Nickel went back to week three or week four, but moved over a column. I may do the same thing.

I haven’t been following this as deeply as I should have, but I saw you mention week 6 final day and was shocked. Then I realized that there were two paces going, one for Get Fit Slowly readers and one for your own schedule.
It made more sense after reading the update at the end there.

I just finished week 4, and will do the exhaustion test on late sunday. If you had asked me if i could do 31 pushups a few weeks ago I would have said no way. Now I’m pretty confident that I can.
It’s nice to see the progress - and even if I can’t finish in 6 weeks, I know that it is making me stronger and helping me in my journey to become fit!
I didn’t realize we were counting half pushups. If that is the case, I did 20 and 1/2 pushups today.

Finished my post-week 4 exhaustion test: 45 push-ups. Two weeks ago I collapsed after 33, so I’m happy with the progress I’ve made so far. 45 push-ups qualifies me for column 3, which I expect to fail miserably. It’s like JD said, the jump is simply too high. Even if I’d drop back to column 1, I’d have to do a total of 126 push ups (19 more than my personal record), with only half the resting time. I’ll give it a shot, but in all likelihood I’ll be repeating week 3/4 on column 3 (up from column 2).
But hey, I’m making progress and that’s really all that counts. Sure, 100 push ups is still pretty far away and I won’t make it in 6 weeks. But the goal is to get fit SLOWLY. If we all just keep working hard and have some patience, the results WILL come.

I took a week off after week 5. (I’d been doing pretty well up until then). I’ll be back into it this week. My husband just completed week 6, and in his exhaustion test he managed 63. He’ll be repeating week 6 this week, and trying again on sunday.

I just entered week five, and it is crazy. This is after a repeat of week four. I’ve been in column 3 the whole way, but week four was rough. I managed to complete is successfully on Monday, and decided to dive into week 5.
I am in between my 2nd and 3rd sets right now, but already confident that I will repeat week 5.
On a positive note, I started with a max of 15, and now I can do more than 40. On my last day of week 4 (part 2) I managed 134 pushups. It is pretty exciting.

I completed the 100 pushup challenge with 100 pushups. The first final test, I scored 90 pushups. I waited three days and tried again. I finished 100 pushups after the three days of rest.
I am off to the next big challenge. 60 situp in a minute. Check it out at http://60situpschallenge.blogspot.com and join the 60 situps in a minute challenge for free!

Congrats Tim.
Nice idea for a new challenge too, even if it does look remarkably similar to the push ups plan….
You might like to remove the “Lose the belly fat” image though - I created it exclusively for use on my hundred push ups web site.
Good luck with the site,
