Yoga Today: Free Yoga Videos on the Web

During my junior year of college, I did yoga three times a week, between four and five o’clock in the afternoon. It was awesome — one of the best classes I ever took. I loved it. I’ve always wanted to get back into, but never made the time.

Believe it or not, our recent purchase of Wii Fit has me interested in yoga once again. Kris faithfully does a yoga routine now every morning. I do a little during the day. (I find Wii yoga a little frustrating — it’s not the real thing.) Because my recent leg injury has prevented me from running, I’ve been looking for other fitness options. I discovered my gym offers two even yoga sessions, but they’re not at a convenient time.

Fortunately, Amy Jo pointed me to a site called Yoga Today, which is exactly what it sounds like: a daily yoga video on the web. Each episode is a new session featuring one of three instructors — Neesha, Sarah, or Adi — and set outdoors at the base of the Rocky Mountains.

The site apparently cycles through a library of 300 different sessions. Unfortunately, there’s no way to access favorite past episodes. You may access the past week’s workouts on the site, but after seven days the videos go away. (For example, the following video will “go black” in a couple of days because Yoga Today will remove it from their server.)

Yoga Today: Beauty and Goodness (Neesha)

The Yoga Today FAQ promises that users may eventually purchase episodes permanently or order a DVD with multiple workouts, but there’s scant information about this. Still, these free yoga videos are an awesome resource.

Though I haven’t actually done any of the routines yet, I intend to. I’m actually excited to begin practicing yoga again, if even just a little bit.

I’m totally there with you on the Wii Fit Yoga.

It’s a decent stretching routine, but it’s not a yoga session.

    Hi guys,
speaking of the Wii - do you mind doing a full review of the product ?

My husband is very intrigued by it and of course im worried that its just another excercise gimick thats very expensive…

can you blog about the pros and cons of the program?

    thanks !

The timing of this post is perfect. I just discovered this blog through your excellent GRS blog, and my wife just gave me a small “5 Minute Yoga” book today. Coincidence? Hardly!
My wife suggested I start my workday with a small yoga routine, and here fate is to reinforce that suggestion.
Kudos to you, and thanks for your inspiring blogs. :)

There are also a lot of great (free!) yoga podcasts on the internet. If you don’t mind just an audio class check out Elsie’s yoga podcasts (www.elsieyogakula.wordpress.com) for some great classes that she recorded. Her site has some awesome pictures of the sequence and she’ll definitely get your blood pumping!

/end sounding like a commercial- no affiliation, just love her classes

If you have access to on demand type TV service and get the Fitness channel - they also have several programs that do yoga type stuff - including “wake up” stretches for the morning and such. Last time I checked - there wasn’t a whole heck of a lot of content - but they did have full episodes for longer workouts and shorter ones if you just want a brief break.

I haven’t tried the Wii Fit yoga yet. My wife tried it after her regular workout and found that she couldn’t do the most basic tree pose.

It’s interesting, some things on the Wii Fit are much harder than I thought. Maybe I just have zero balance or something.
