Celebrity trainer Gina Lombardi, the host of Fit TV’s “Fit Nation”, recently wrote an article about how to stay on-plan during the nation’s (world’s ?) biggest chip and dip party day of the year.
In “Super Bowl Shape-Up: Get Your Game On!” Ms. Lombardi recommends several courses of action.
Play a pick-up game of flag football the morning before the game. According to the article, “a 150-pound person can burn an average of 576 calories per hour this way!” I don’t buy the calorie numbers, but any exercise you get can help you balance your calorie budget on Sunday.
She also gives some tips for making better food choices. Some of the suggestions include baked chips instead of fried, thin crust pizza instead of thick, lite beer instead of regular–better yet, water instead of any calorie laden beverage. I especially liked this advice because it didn’t say to eat only carrot sticks and celery while everyone else is eating the things you love the most.
And if you haven’t fallen into your food coma before half-time arrives, maybe you can do a few squat, lunges, push-ups or sit-ups with your buddies during the break…yeah right
While researching this superbowl post, I happened upon msn’s fitlist. It’s a pretty decent blog written by 6 trainers with lots of different tips. They don’t write often, but it’s got some interesting stuff. You may want to check it out.
