Well, even though this is being posted on Friday, the numbers are from Wednesday.

  • Weight: 215.0 lbs. (down 6 pounds since day 1)
  • Body Fat %: 29.0 (down 1 % since day 1)

Last Wednesday, the scale said 212.6. All of you dieters out there know that some days when you step on the scale, for whatever reason, it’s telling lies. Last Wednesday’s 212.6 was not right, I knew that I hadn’t lost 4 pounds in a week. I didn’t eat well enough, nor did I exercise well enough. I was so happy with the numbers that I chose to believe them and report them.

This week, the scale is back to telling the truth. The weight feels right to me based on my habits from the passed two weeks. I had an amazing few days of eating, drinking and socializing. I didn’t make the best choices possible in all cases. However, I did make better choices than in the past and I was always mindful of the choices I was making. I never ate or drank while completely disregarding my goals. I know I didn’t lose weight this week. But I’m not discouraged at all, and I’m ready to get back to it.

We still have a few holiday social events planned, but I’m mentally prepared for them and will be fine.

Thanks a lot for the great positive words of encouragement you all have been giving J.D. and me. We really appreciate them.

Good work on losing that body fat - that’s the best progress to make. What method are you using to measure it?

I hate when the scale lies. That’s why I prefer a weekly weight average.

Do you have a digital scale? Mine sometimes gives me a different weight even with only a few seconds between weighings. I usually make it tell me the same weight 3 times in a row before I believe it.

Good work. I can relate. This time of year is tough. It seems like I’ve been eating out with friends and family almost every day for the past week and even though I am trying to make wise choices at restaurants, it is hard to truly eat healthy with everything going on right now.

Apart from the lying scale, I like to focus on how good I feel after working out. Just how good you feel about yourself makes a positive impact in your daily life and we all need that these days! Keep up the good work guys.

While most people are packing on a few more pounds, you are eating mindfully and maintaining your weight. Good job!

If we do it right, we’ll be maintaining our weight (at goal weight) a lot longer than we’ll be losing weight, so just think of this as practice maintenance!

It’s good to hear you’re not letting yourself get discouraged. And why should you? You’re doing great.

So how often do you weigh yourself? Is it just once a week? I’ve heard some people recommend doing it once every week or two so that there is less chance of getting discouraged. Others have recommended doing it on a daily basis in order to learn how your body reacts to whatever your activities and food intake are. Any thoughts in the gallery?

    Thanks,

@ Melissa: I use a Taylor electronic scale and body fat analyzer. It measures my body fat with the electrical impedance method. I’m not sure how accurate it is, but it’s better than nothing.

@ Blubba: I weigh myself every morning and check my BF% on Wednesday morning. If I’m doing things right, my weight stays the same from day to day or goes down by a few tenths of a pound. This week, it seems to be going up, way faster then it ever goes down :(
