My wife suggested weekly weigh-in/progress updates as a way to keep me interested in my diet and exercise plans without focusing solely on writing for the blog. I think it’s a pretty good idea, so here it goes:
- Weight: 215.6 lbs. (down 5.4 pounds since day 1)
- Body Fat %: 30.0 (unchanged since day 1)
Since my review of the online diet and exercise calculators, I’ve decided that I’m going to continue to use fitday. I’ve played more extensively with the others and haven’t found any significant reason to switch away from the one I know how to use. I think fitday’s interface is by far the most efficient, even if their food database isn’t quite as good as the others’. I can still add foods to the database as I need to do so. Here’s a link to my public journal. (Opens in a new window)
I’ve also signed up for an account with the online hacker’s diet to satisfy the geek inside me. I don’t know how much I’ll use it, but we’ll see. However, I do plan on inputing as much food and exercise as I can into my fitday journal.
In general, I feel pretty good with the way that I’ve progressed. I haven’t made any significant exercise increases since I started at the end of October. However, my food intake, especially late in the evenings, HAS decreased and so my weight has come down a bit. I’m ready to start exercising, and am going to do some more reading about the hacker’s diet exercise plan as well as the crossfit exercise plan because lots of you have suggested them.
Thanks a lot for the great positive words of encouragement you all have been giving J.D. and me. We really appreciate them.

I’ll do a weekly weigh-in, too, but I’ll do it on Mondays. We’ll call this Monday the official first day of my fitness plan. As mentioned in previous posts, I’ve begun moving in the right direction, but I’m still going over some stuff in my head that I need to get right.
Just for the record, I’m currently at 208.0 pounds and 33.0% fat. I’m one-third fat!

The whole not eating late at night thing is a good idea. In general, I’ve found that I feel 50x better when I wake up if I don’t eat within three or four hours before going to bed. Pretty soon going to bed slightly hungry will just be “going to bed” because your stomach will adjust to not eating after dinner.

When i was working down to a goal weight, I’d do a weigh-in every morning, but then take the average for the week on Sunday. I preferred this method because I think I got a better feel for my real weight.
I printed off a blank calendar from outlook for the month and hung it up in the bathroom over the scale, and kept a pencil nearby. It was always interesting to see the slight fluctuations from day to day.
